Medical entrance test judgement kept “unannounced”

IMPHAL, August 17, 2013
The final hearing of the MBBS/BDS entrance test case was held today at the High Court of Manipur.  However, the judgement was not announced and was kept as reserved.

The state Medical directorate had issued a notification on April 19, 2013 notifying that the entrance test for the admission into MBBS/BDS courses for this year academic session will be held on June 9, 2013.

However, after 5753 admit cards were issued, the said entrance test was called off prior to only two days on June 7 from the scheduled date on June 9.

Subsequently, a notification was issued by Director A Bijoy Singh according to which, the candidates of the admission into MBBS/BDS courses will be selected from the merit list of National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSC).

10 candidates who have received admit cards for the said entrance test filed a petition at High Court of Manipur challenging the government’s decision of calling off the entrance test. The Court admitted the petition and the case was going at the Court.

The 10 candidates who are the petitioners in this case submitted their arguments to the court while the state government who are the respondents prayed the court to let them submit the arguments on August 16.

With the submission of the arguments by the respondents, the final hearing for the case which started from August 8 was held today.

Meanwhile, the petitioners have maintained that they will approach the Supreme Court if the judgement does not favour them.
