The University has been constituted with the merger of the following prestigious institutes offering multi-disciplinary study programs:
Law College Dehradun (Established in 2002): The society set up Law College Dehradun in 2002. This is first independent Law College in the State of Uttarakhand and pioneered the B.A.LL.B. five years course in Northern India. Now a decade old, Law college Dehradun has become a niche centre of learning in legal studies.
Its alumni have done their college proud by securing high merit in the University examination and have carved a position for themselves by practicing in the Apex Court of the country, various high courts and district courts. Many of its students have qualified in PCS (J) and are working as judges and magistrates.
Today Law College Dehradun has become synonymous with quality legal education.
Uttaranchal Institute of Technology (Established in 2006): The famed UIT came into existence in 2006. Initially the institute offered B.Tech, 4-year courses and MBA at the post graduate level. Now being part of the Uttaranchal University UIT has widened its study programs and is offering a wide range of under diploma, graduate, post graduate and Ph.D. programs.
The institute has earned significant achievements in academics and co-curricular activities. UIT students have bagged Gold Medals for securing highest percentage of marks in the university examination.
Today UIT has become a name to reckon with.
Uttaranchal Institute of Management (Established in 2006): The Institute was set-up to offer higher studies in Management and Computer Application in 2006. Our study program is specifically designed to meet the corporate requirements.

Objectives
To create centres of excellence for providing knowledge, education, training and research facilities of high order in the field of science, engineering, professional education, law and legal studies, dental, medical, paramedical, physiotherapy, pharmacy, commerce, management, education, humanities and other related professional education as per its current status and such other manner as may develop in future, including continuing education and distance learning.
To impart knowledge and training in various fields at the undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral levels contributing to the development of the state and the nation at large besides facilitating the residents of Uttarakhand State for employability in the region so as to reduce flux of migration.
Engage students in learning partnerships with faculty and the community as well as engage faculty and students in professionally related service to the university, the community and the society at large.
To prepare and assist students in improving their future prospects through career and placement counseling and support, on-the-job training, industrial visits, presentations and group discussions.
To bring education within the reach of the permanent residents of Uttarakhand by reserving 40% seats for the wards of the permanent residents of Uttarakhand for admission in all courses and providing them substantive concessions in tuition fee.
Organizing extracurricular activities to develop sporting skills, promote literary and cultural interests, social service, national integration and discipline.
